Get your new home ready for moving day

Moving to a new home is a pretty daunting task for most people, given the amount of work and time that goes into it. However, you can substantially reduce the stress of making a move by taking your time in planning and organizing well ahead of time. There are certain essential aspects that you must consider before you arrive with all your bags and luggage to your new home. Have a look at this handy checklist of things that you can do to prep up your new house before you finally move into it.

Take an internet connection

Since most internet service providers are pre booked for weeks in advance, you might want to consider taking up a new connection as soon as possible. Life without the internet is unimaginable nowadays, and it is better to take care of it, rather than spend several weeks over a pending internet connection once you move in.

Change the locks

It’s a no brainer that the keys for your existing locks have probably done several rounds in the hands of the maintenance people, the realtors and obviously the previous owners. Having said that, it is a good idea to immediately hire a locksmith to change your locks with brand new ones. Although a simple step, it can go a long way in ensuring your safe stay at the new house.

Hire professional cleaners

While most realtors will ensure a professional cleaning of the house before the previous owners move out, there are plenty of properties that have stayed on the market for a long time, implying that they would probably need a deep cleaning session to get rid of all the dust and spills. Hire a professional cleaner and get your carpets and rugs steam cleaned, the cabinets wiped, and the bathrooms cleared of all spots and stains.

Connect the energy

Typically you would have to get the energy connection cut off your previous tenant’s name and transferred under yours. All you need to do is call up your energy provider and furnish him with the all the details of your name, address, preferred date of connection and so on. This tip is particularly important as you wouldn’t want the previous owners to be wrongfully charged for your energy consumption once you move into the house.

A little planning makes a world of difference in ensuring that you have a seamless and stress free move to your new dream house.
